ASUU also accused President Muhammadu Buhari's administration of being unconcerned about its demands.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) announced a four-week extension of its ongoing strike to give the government more time to address all of its demands.

ASUU also accused President Muhammadu Buhari's administration of being unconcerned about its demands.

The university lecturers' union launched a one-month strike on February 14. It was extended when it was about to expire.

The union extended its strike by another 12 weeks in May.

However, "the strike has been rolled over for another 4 weeks with effect from 12.01am (01/08/2022) to give the FGN more time to resolve the issues," according to a reliable source.

On February 14, members of the union began a one-month strike in protest of the Nigerian government's failure to honor various agreements reached with it.

ASUU's demands include the release of university revitalisation funds, renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement, the release of earned allowances for university lecturers, and the deployment of the UTAS payment platform for the payment of university lecturers' salaries and allowances.

Following the expiration of the initial twelve-week rollover, the union declared an additional four weeks of strike, claiming that it was giving the government more time to address its needs.
