The attackers broke into the victim's rural home, Okporo. Around 8:00 p.m., they broke into his house and shot the elderly Onuchukwu at close range.

An Owerri-based Newspoint Newspaper journalist's father, Hamilton Onuchukwu, was shot and killed by gunmen.

The incident reportedly took place last Friday in the Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State, where some gunmen have been terrorizing the locals.

The attackers broke into the victim's rural home, Okporo. Around 8:00 p.m., they broke into his house and shot the elderly Onuchukwu at close range.

Hamilton, who described the incident to Daily Post over the phone, claimed that the 82-year-old retired police officer was shot in the chest by a two-person motorcycle gang.

The journalist claimed he was unable to determine whether the shooters belonged to the Southeast Security Outfit, also known by the codename Ebubeagu, or to the unidentified shooters terrorizing the state and the entire Southeast region.

Hamilton, who sobbed as he spoke of the loss of his father, claimed that the killing of his father was the cause of his sudden onset of cardiac issues.

"I have a great love for my dad. He and I were too close. On that fateful day, my father was in our community's compound at Ubaha Okporo when two motorcycle-riding boys arrived and shot him at point-blank range. It took place around 8:00 pm.

"I have some people to be wary of. He was a former police officer. He was wounded three times by the thugs. I want to commit suicide. Do you know that since his passing, I have had cardiac issues?

Hamilton claimed he alerted the Imo State Police Command's anti-kidnapping unit and the command's public relations unit about his father's murder.

Michael Abattam, the police spokesperson, had not yet commented on the incident as of the time this report was filed.
